Trapezoidal sheet — application, standard and installation

Where it is used

Trapezoidal sheet is the profiled covering and cladding for roofs and facades. Modeco roll-forms T-18 = 1100 mm, T-22 = 1070 mm, T-35 = 1035 mm, T-45 = 1000 mm: the lower profiles T-18 and T-22 for facades, soffits and the roofs of family houses, the higher T-35 and T-45 for the roofs of halls, because a higher corrugation carries a greater purlin spacing. It is supplied in lengths made to measure, in the RAL shades of the groups RAL 3009 / 8019 and RAL 7016 / 9005 / 9006 / 9002 / 6028 / 8004, with anti-condensation fleece if required.

The standard and what it guarantees

The substrate is steel S320GD, galvanising Z275 (275 g of zinc per m², both sides) to EN 10346, polyester coating 35 µm. Self-supporting profiled sheets for roof and wall are covered by EN 14782; EN 10346 guarantees the zinc thickness and the steel substrate. The load capacity for a given purlin spacing is read from the manufacturer's tables for the particular profile and thickness, not from the standard.

What to watch out for during installation

The quantity is calculated from the cover width (T-18 = 1100 mm, T-22 = 1070 mm, T-35 = 1035 mm, T-45 = 1000 mm), not from the overall width of the sheet. The sheet is laid from the eaves towards the ridge with a side overlap of one corrugation and fixed in the trough of the corrugation with screws with an EPDM sealing washer: GT F2 4.8 × 35 to 4.8 × 80 mm for a timber substructure, GT02, GT3, GT5, GT12 for a steel one. On cold roofs without insulation the anti-condensation fleece binds the condensate so that it does not drip. It is cut with shears or a nibbler — an angle grinder burns the zinc and the coating.

T-18 and T-22 (corrugation height 18 and 22 mm) are used on facades, soffits and the roofs of family houses; T-35 and T-45 (35 and 45 mm) on the roofs of halls, because a higher corrugation carries a greater purlin spacing and sheds the water faster. Cover widths: T-18 = 1100 mm, T-22 = 1070 mm, T-35 = 1035 mm, T-45 = 1000 mm.

What is the cover width of trapezoidal sheet?

The cover width is the usable width of the sheet after the overlap with the neighbouring one: T-18 = 1100 mm, T-22 = 1070 mm, T-35 = 1035 mm, T-45 = 1000 mm. The overall width of the sheet is greater by the corrugation that goes into the overlap, so the quantity of sheet is calculated from the cover width multiplied by the number of sheets.

Which screws is trapezoidal sheet fixed with?

With self-drilling screws with an EPDM sealing washer (4.8×16 and 6.3×19): GT F2 4.8 × 35 to 4.8 × 80 mm for a timber substructure, GT02, GT3, GT5, GT12 for a steel one. The screw goes into the trough of the corrugation, at right angles to the sheet, with the washer only lightly compressed — an over-tightened washer splits and lets water through.

When is anti-condensation fleece needed?

On cold roofs without thermal insulation — canopies, garages, agricultural halls — where moisture condenses on the underside of the sheet at night. The fleece is bonded to the underside at the works, takes up the condensate and releases it again during the day; it comes as an extra with the T-18, T-22, T-35, T-45 profiles.
