The snow guard holds the snow on the roof so that it does not slide onto an entrance, a walkway, the gutter or a lower roof. Individual snow guards (biber, biber long, tegola) hook under the tile or the shingle and are distributed across the plane; the continuous snow guard for trapezoidal sheet runs in an unbroken row above the eaves. They are made of colour-coated sheet in the colour of the roof covering, by developed width.
The sheet of the snow guard is steel S320GD, galvanising Z275 (275 g of zinc per m², both sides) to EN 10346, polyester coating 35 µm. The number of rows and the arrangement of the snow guards are not the subject of the sheet standard — they are determined by the roof pitch, the length of the rafters and the snow zone of the building, in the design or by the installer.
The first row goes above the eaves, over the load-bearing wall and not over the overhang — the load of the snow has to go into the structure and not into the gutter. The continuous snow guard for trapezoidal sheet T-35 and T-45 is screwed through the crown of the corrugation into the purlin, not into the sheet alone, with a saddle washer under the screw; the individual ones hook onto the batten under the tile. On long and steep planes the snow guards are set in several rows.

So that snow and ice do not slide off the smooth plane onto an entrance, a walkway, a parked car or the gutter — a sheet-metal covering (S320GD, Z275, polyester 35 µm) is smooth and snow slides off it more easily than off clay tiles. The snow guard holds the blanket of snow so that it melts on the roof.
The continuous one — an unbroken strip above the eaves — is used on trapezoidal sheet T-35 and T-45 and other sheet-metal coverings; the individual ones (biber, tegola) on clay tiles and shingles, distributed across the plane. Both are made of colour-coated sheet Z275 to EN 10346.
The first row above the eaves, over the load-bearing wall, so that the load of the snow goes into the structure and not into the gutter on the overhang; on long and steep planes further rows are added towards the top. The continuous snow guard on trapezoidal sheet is screwed through the crown of the corrugation into the purlin with screws with an EPDM sealing washer (4.8×16 and 6.3×19).
