The outlet (hopper head) connects the gutter to the downpipe: it collects the water at the lowest point of the fall and directs it into the downpipe. Modeco makes it in three combinations, which at the same time define the standard pairing of the system: developed width 250 → Ø 80, developed width 330 → Ø 100, developed width 417 → Ø 120 mm. With the outlet go the gutter, bends, pipe and pipe clips of the same system and in the same RAL colour.

The standard and what it guarantees

Hanging roof gutters and rainwater downpipes made of metal sheet are covered by EN 612: the standard defines the terminology, shapes, dimensions and requirements for manufacture, not the calculation of capacity. The sheet the part is roll-formed from is continuously hot-dip galvanised steel Z275 (275 g of zinc per m², both sides) to EN 10346, with a factory-applied colour coating.

What to watch out for during installation

The outlet is set at the position of the downpipe, at the lowest point of the gutter fall; an opening is cut in the bottom of the gutter, the outlet is hooked over the front edge and riveted with sealing. The number of outlets depends on the catchment area — long eaves get two downpipes, so the gutter falls from the middle to both sides. Below the outlet follow the bends and the pipe of the same diameter.

Which outlet goes with which gutter?

The outlets are made in the combinations developed width 250 → Ø 80, developed width 330 → Ø 100, developed width 417 → Ø 120 mm, so the choice follows from the developed width of the gutter: the gutter of developed width 330 takes the outlet onto a Ø 100 pipe, the gutter of developed width 417 the outlet onto Ø 120. These combinations are at the same time the standard pairing of gutter and downpipe.

Where along the eaves is the outlet placed?

At the lowest point of the gutter fall, above the place where the downpipe runs down the wall or into a chamber; the gutter is laid to fall towards it from the opposite end. The outlet of developed width 330 / Ø 100 therefore sits at the end of the eaves, or in the middle where the gutter falls to both sides.

Can one outlet drain the whole of the eaves?

That depends on the catchment area of the roof and on the rainfall intensity; EN 612 prescribes the gutter and the pipe themselves, not the calculation of the number of downpipes. On long eaves two downpipes with outlets at both ends are usual, and the gutter then falls from the middle. Modeco carries out the calculation as part of the quotation.
