The downpipe carries the water from the outlet down the wall to the ground drainage, a spout or a collecting chamber. Modeco makes it in the diameters Ø 80, Ø 100 and Ø 120 mm, paired with the developed widths of the gutter: developed width 250 → Ø 80, developed width 330 → Ø 100, developed width 417 → Ø 120. It is supplied in the same RAL colour as the gutter, outlet, bends and pipe clips.
Hanging roof gutters and rainwater downpipes made of metal sheet are covered by EN 612: the standard defines the terminology, shapes, dimensions and requirements for manufacture, not the calculation of capacity. The sheet the part is roll-formed from is continuously hot-dip galvanised steel Z275 (275 g of zinc per m², both sides) to EN 10346, with a factory-applied colour coating.
The pipes are joined so that the upper piece goes into the lower one, so the water runs inside the system, and a pipe connector covers the joint. They are held against the wall by pipe clips of the same diameter; a clip goes below every joint, and the extended version where the pipe stands off the wall because of facade insulation. The offset from the eaves to the wall is bridged by two bends and a short piece of pipe.
Questions and answers
According to the outlets in the range: developed width 250 → Ø 80, developed width 330 → Ø 100, developed width 417 → Ø 120 mm. The Ø 100 pipe therefore belongs to the gutter of developed width 330, the usual size on a family house; Ø 120 goes with the reinforced gutter of developed width 417.
The upper pipe is pushed into the lower one, in the direction of flow, and a pipe connector of the same diameter (Ø 80, Ø 100 and Ø 120 mm) covers the joint. The joint needs no adhesive — the water stays inside the pipe because each piece discharges into the next.
With pipe clips of the same diameter as the pipe, anchored into the wall with a wall plug or an anchor; a clip goes below every pipe connector so that it carries the weight of the pipe. The extended pipe clip Ø 100 is used where the pipe stands off the wall because of the thermal insulation of the facade.
EN 612 — the standard for hanging roof gutters and rainwater downpipes made of metal sheet, together with their accessories. The sheet is galvanised steel Z275 to EN 10346, with a factory-applied colour coating.
