Pipe clips — application, standard and installation

Where it is used

The pipe clip holds the downpipe against the wall and carries its weight. It is made in the pipe diameters Ø 80, Ø 100 and Ø 120 mm and in an extended version Ø 100 for a pipe standing off the wall — where the facade is thermally insulated or where the downpipe passes an overhang. The colour follows the colour of the pipe.

The standard and what it guarantees

The pipe clip is an accessory of the system covered by EN 612; it is made from galvanised steel strip Z275 (EN 10346) with a colour coating. The method of anchoring into the wall is not the subject of the gutter standard — it is chosen according to the substrate (concrete, solid or hollow brick).

What to watch out for during installation

The clip is fitted below every pipe connector and on every piece of pipe, so that it carries the pipe and stops the joints from sliding. It is anchored into the wall with a wall plug or an anchor matched to the substrate. The extended clip is used where the pipe has to stand off the wall because of insulation; the diameter of the clip always matches the diameter of the pipe.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions: Pipe clips

Which pipe clip for which downpipe?

The diameter of the clip is the same as the diameter of the pipe: Ø 80, Ø 100 and Ø 120 mm. A gutter of developed width 330 with a Ø 100 pipe takes a Ø 100 clip; a smaller clip crushes the pipe, a larger one does not hold it.

When is the extended pipe clip used?

Where the pipe stands off the wall — on a thermally insulated facade, at an overhang or at a plinth — and the standard clip does not reach the substrate. Modeco makes the extended clip for the Ø 100 mm pipe, the usual diameter with a gutter of developed width 330.

What is the pipe clip fixed into the wall with?

With a wall plug in solid brick or block, with an anchor in concrete — according to the substrate, from the anchors and plugs category. The clip carries the Ø 80, Ø 100 and Ø 120 mm pipe and the water in it, so the anchoring has to hold the weight of the downpipe and not merely prevent it from shifting.
