Gutter brackets — application, standard and installation

Where it is used

The gutter bracket carries the half-round gutter and sets its fall towards the outlet. Modeco makes brackets for all three developed widths of the gutter (250, 330 and 417 mm) in four versions: straight for mounting on the fascia board or the rafter, bent and twisted for mounting on the rafter from above or from the side, and extended where a greater stand-off from the wall is needed — for instance because of the thickness of the facade insulation.

The standard and what it guarantees

The bracket carries a gutter sized to EN 612; the bracket itself is made from galvanised steel strip Z275 (275 g of zinc per m², EN 10346) with a colour coating in the RAL shade of the gutter. Load capacity and bracket spacing are not the subject of the gutter standard — they are set by the installer according to the snow and ice load on the building.

What to watch out for during installation

The brackets go up before the gutter: the first and the last set the fall, the rest are lined up to a taut wire. The bracket has to have the same developed width as the gutter — a bracket for developed width 330 will not carry a gutter of developed width 417. The straight bracket is fixed to the fascia board, the twisted and the bent one to the rafter; at eaves without a fascia board the rafter bracket or the extended bracket is used.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions: Gutter brackets

Which bracket for which eaves detail?

The straight bracket for the fascia board or the rafter end, the bent and the twisted one for mounting on the rafter from above or from the side, the extended one where the gutter has to stand off the wall because of insulation or an overhang. All the versions exist for gutters of developed width 250, 330 and 417 mm, made from galvanised strip Z275 to EN 10346.

How many brackets does a gutter need?

The number of brackets depends on the length of the eaves and on the spacing set by the installer according to the snow load; standard EN 612 prescribes the gutter, not the spacing of the brackets. Along with the brackets go the outlet at the lowest point of the fall and a stop end at every free end of the gutter (developed width 250, 330 and 417 mm).

Can brackets for developed width 330 carry a gutter of developed width 417?

No. The bracket is bent to the radius of the gutter, so every developed width (250, 330 and 417 mm) has its own bracket; a gutter on the wrong bracket does not seat in the cradle and does not hold the fall. Modeco brackets carry the developed width in their name.
