The pipe bend changes the direction of the downpipe: a pair of bends with a short piece of pipe bridges the offset from the outlet at the eaves to the downpipe against the wall, and a single bend at the foot directs the water away from the wall or into a collecting chamber. Modeco makes bends in the diameters Ø 80, Ø 100 and Ø 120 mm, the same as the downpipe diameters, in the colour of the system.
The bend is an accessory of the downpipe from the system covered by EN 612 (hanging gutters and downpipes made of metal sheet). It is made from the same galvanised steel Z275 (275 g of zinc per m², both sides) to EN 10346 as the pipe and the gutter, with a factory-applied colour coating.
The bend is pushed home in the direction of flow: the upper element goes into the lower one so that no water escapes at the joint. The diameter of the bend has to match the diameter of the pipe — an outlet of developed width 330 onto Ø 100 takes bends of Ø 100. Where the eaves are set forward, two bends and an intermediate piece of pipe cut to measure are needed; the angle of the bend is chosen to suit the offset.
Questions and answers
Usually two at the top — one at the outlet and one at the start of the pipe against the wall, with an intermediate piece of pipe bridging the eaves offset — and, where needed, one at the foot for the discharge. All the bends have the diameter of the downpipe: Ø 80, Ø 100 and Ø 120 mm.
The diameter of the bend follows the diameter of the pipe, and that follows the developed width of the gutter: developed width 250 → Ø 80, developed width 330 → Ø 100, developed width 417 → Ø 120 mm. A half-round gutter of developed width 330 takes bends of Ø 100, developed width 417 bends of Ø 120.
Of galvanised steel sheet Z275 (275 g of zinc per m²) to EN 10346, colour-coated in the RAL shade of the gutter and the pipe, so the whole downpipe is one colour. As part of the downpipe system it is covered by EN 612.
