Standing seam sheet (G-fold, double standing seam) is a covering with longitudinal standing seams and no visible screws: it is used on roofs of low pitch, on rounded and curved planes, on domes and on facades where a smooth, narrow strip without corrugations is wanted. It is laid on a solid substrate and fixed with clips concealed in the seam; it is offered on request, to a roof drawing.
The sheet is steel S320GD, galvanising Z275 (275 g of zinc per m², both sides) to EN 10346, polyester coating 35 µm. A standing seam covering is not self-supporting — it rests on a solid substrate, so EN 14782 (self-supporting profiles) does not apply to it, but rather the trade rules for sheet-metal coverings on a substrate; EN 10346 guarantees the steel substrate and the zinc thickness.
A solid boarded substrate with a separating (structured) layer that separates the sheet from the timber and drains the condensate. The strips are fixed with fixed clips over part of their length and with sliding clips over the rest, so that the sheet can lengthen in the heat without buckling; the seam is closed by hand or by machine against the direction of the prevailing wind. The sheet is not pierced on the water side.
Questions and answers
Because the strips are fixed with clips — steel tabs that are nailed to the substrate and folded into the seam, so the closed seam covers them. The sheet is not pierced on the water side, and sliding clips allow it to lengthen in the heat. The sheet is S320GD Z275 to EN 10346.
A solid substrate — boards or panels — with a separating layer that separates the sheet from the timber and lets the condensate through. A standing seam covering is not self-supporting like trapezoidal sheet T-35 and T-45 to EN 14782; the load capacity comes from the substrate, the sheet provides the weathertightness.
Of steel S320GD with Z275 galvanising — 275 g of zinc per m², both sides, to EN 10346 — and a polyester coating of 35 µm in a RAL colour. On request it is also made of aluminium, copper or stainless steel from the flat sheet range.
